Today I'm going to write about marshmallows since I read about them earlier.
In the 1800's they didn't have the marshmallows we have now, they only had Marshmallow candy that came from the Marsh-Mallow plant. It was actually made with honey and was flavored with the Marsh-Mallow plant. That candy came from Egypt. In the 1900s doctors took juice from the root of the Marsh-Mallow plant and mixed it with egg whites and sugar then mixed it creating a meringue. Later on it hardened and was used to help sore throats. Later on advanced manufacturing eliminated the need for the gooey Marsh-Mallow roots. "But sadly that got rid of the healing properties as a cough suppressant, immune system booster and wound healer." Until the mid 1800s marshmallow candy was made using sap from the Marsh-Mallow plant. But they need a faster way to make it so in the modern recipes gelatin replaces the sap. Now, marshmallows can be made by piping the fluffy mixture through long tubes and cutting its tubular shape into equal pieces.
